It’s been a strange old tournament like no other, but the Europa League final eventually takes place between Sevilla and Inter on Friday night. Both teams enjoyed impressive results in the semis to secure their spot in the showpiece at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, which will happen almost three months later than planned.

Sevilla v Inter Predictions and Preview

The Europa League final serves up an intriguing clash between stalwarts of this tournament Sevilla and a resurgent Inter Milan. The Spanish outfit are looking to win this competition for a record-extending sixth time, while the Serie A representatives are bidding for their first triumph in its current format.

All five of Sevilla’s Europa League crowns have come within the last 14 years, including three successive triumphs between 2014 and 2016. They soaked up a lot of pressure and rode their luck against Manchester United in the semi-finals, but dealt the Red Devils a sucker punch to beat them 2-1 and secure back-to-back victories over Premier League sides following their quarter-final win against Wolves.

Inter, meanwhile, haven’t won this competition since 1998 when it was the UEFA Cup, although they have won the Champions League since then. They took apart a dangerous Shakhtar Donetsk side in the last four, thrashing the Ukrainian champions 5-0 with Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku both bagging braces. If those two are in the mood again here, Sevilla will struggle to keep out Inter the same way they restricted Man United to a single goal in the last round.

The Nerazzurri are in confident mood, coming into this final on the back of six straight wins. Antonio Conte’s side have been excellent defensively of late, keeping six clean sheets in their last seven games. Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui also has his team performing well at the back though, after seven clean sheets in their last nine games.

Inter may have run riot in their semi, but this final looks like being a much tighter affair. Sevilla have experience of going course and distance in this tournament, while they also showed they’re capable of sitting in and soaking up pressure, as they’ve done for large periods during these Europa League knockout rounds in Germany.

Even so, the Nerazzurri will have their chances, and the Italians are the favourites for the win. They’re priced at 5/4 in the latest Europa League final odds, while Sevilla are available at 5/2. If your Inter vs Sevilla prediction is for the game to go to extra-time, you can back the draw after 90 minutes at 5/2. Inter are 4/6 to lift the trophy by any method, with Sevilla 11/8 in the same market.

One to watch for Sevilla: Lucas Ocampos may be struggling with a slight injury, but the Argentine is a dangerous player going forward. He got the only goal of the game against Wolves in the quarters and is on 17 goals for the season in his debut campaign for Sevilla since moving from Marseille. He is worth a look at 6/1 in the first scorer market to add to his tally here.

One to watch for Inter: Romelu Lukaku has always been plagued by accusations he doesn’t deliver on the biggest stage. The Belgian has scored in each of Inter’s three games so far in Germany this month though, and another in the final would silence many of his critics. He is the 4/1 favourite to break the deadlock on Friday night.

Long shot: This game could prove to be a very tight affair, with both teams showing they’re very strong defensively in recent weeks. The odds on there being under 1.5 goals are 5/2, while Inter are 7/1 to win the game 1-0. If you add Lukaku as the scorer, you could be in for a big win if your bet comes in at 39/1
