SPAL v Inter Predictions and Preview

Three does not go in to two and Inter are in a real battle to clinch a much coveted top four berth. Having gone unbeaten for the opening 16 matches, the unlikely 3-1 defeat at the hands of Udinese has unsettled Luciano Spalletti’s side and they have yet to win since, losing twice and drawing their three most recent fixtures.

The Nerazzurri’s main threats are the capital clubs but if Lazio continue to score at their current rate it will soon be a face-off between the Milan giants and a Roma side they tied with last weekend.

Simone Inzaghi’s young guns have dismantled Spal and Chievo, respectively, in recent weeks, scoring five goals back-to-back and look well poised to finish in third position.

Inter will once again look to talisman and skipper Mauro Icardi to deliver on match day. The in-demand striker is on the verge of another 20 goal campaign and always leads from the front. Icardi is 4/1 to bag himself a double and share the top of the goalscoring charts with Ciro Immobile. Unsurprisingly, the visitors are the overriding favourites and are placed at 2/1 to come away with the spoils.

Home side SPAL have taken two points from their last four games. All is not lost for the Spallini, though, who have goals in the ranks. In Mirco Antenucci, Alberto Paloschi and Marco Borriello, SPAL have three different outlets capable of hitting the net, particularly the well-travelled Borriello who hit 16 goals for Cagliari last term.

The lowly hosts are 20/1 to spring a surprise and secure the result.

Latest Form

One to watch for SPAL: Antenucci is leading the way for his side with six goals and is guaranteed to start. The former Leeds forward is 12/1 to register first.

One to watch for Inter: Milan Skriniar is a threat from set-pieces and already has three goals in Inter colours. The imposing defender is 20/1 to score within the 90.

Long shot: SPAL may be struggling but have more than held their own against European hopefuls Atalanta and Torino, as well as containing the free-scoring Lazio to a goalless draw on the opening day of the campaign. A confidence boosting 3-1 win the for the Spallini is 40/1.
