Spezia vs. Inter Tips, Preview and Predictions

Spezia and Inter club crests

Inter Milan have their sights firmly set on a first Serie A title since 2010, as they look to maintain their lead at the top of the table away to Spezia. The Nerazzurri have a commanding advantage and will expect to keep that intact when they visit the Stadio Alberto Picco in this midweek fixture.

Last time: Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku both scored in the second half to put Inter into a commanding lead when the teams met at the San Siro just before Christmas, with Roberto Piccoli netting an injury-time consolation for the visitors.

Spezia v Inter Predictions and Preview

The first meeting between these teams earlier this season was the first ever encounter between Spezia and Inter Milan. The Aquilotti were far from embarrassed at the San Siro and have produced an excellent showing in their debut Serie A campaign, with a victory for the hosts here representing one of the biggest in their history.

Getting it against this Inter team won’t be easy though. Antonio Conte’s side are riding high at the top of the table as they look to land their first Scudetto in more than a decade, ending Juventus’s nine-year dominance in the process.

The Nerazzurri have put together a superb run as we hit the business end of the season, winning all 11 of their fixtures prior to Sunday’s trip to Napoli. That saw them open up an 11-point lead over local rivals AC Milan with only eight games remaining, which is surely enough to label Inter as the champions-elect.

The visitors have only lost one of their last 20 Serie A fixtures, away to Sampdoria, winning 17 and drawing the other two away to Roma and Udinese. They may be on the road on Wednesday, but the Nerazzurri are the 2/5 favourites for the win with William Hill

Spezia are available at 15/2 with the same bookmaker, while you can back the draw at 4/1. Avoiding defeat in any way would be a great result for the hosts, who can play with little pressure on their shoulders after building a sizeable gap to the relegation zone.

Securing their Serie A status for a second season was always the number one goal, and the Bianconeri have surely done that having opened up a 10-point lead over 18th-placed Cagliari with only eight games to go.

Spezia may have lost 14 of their opening 30 matches, but eight wins and the same number of draws have given Vincenzo Italiano’s side a real chance of finishing in the top half of the table. That would be some achievement, although adding three more points to their tally here doesn’t appear likely.

Inter have been relentless and they’ve looked calm and composed under the scrutiny of the run-in. They’ve been helped by the poor form of Milan and Juventus, which has allowed them to play with little pressure themselves. It’s tough to look past the away win on Wednesday night.

One to watch for Spezia: M’Bala Nzola is Spezia’s top scorer this season, and his goals have been vital in his team’s successful campaign to date. The 24-year-old Angolan forward is 11/4 to add to his burgeoning reputation by netting against the league leaders on Wednesday.

One to watch for Inter: Romelu Lukaku has gone past the 20-goal mark for the second time in his two seasons at Inter this month. The Belgian striker was on target against Spezia in the first meeting between these team this term, and he is the 13/5 favourite to break the deadlock this time round.

Long shot: Inter beat Spezia 2-1 earlier this season, while the Nerazzurri have won two of their last three away games by the same scoreline. The visitors are 15/2 for a 2-1 victory in these Spezia v Inter tips, rising to 30/1 with Lukaku scoring first.
