Udinese v Milan Predictions and Preview

The Zebrette have endured a tough start to the new campaign and have yet to keep a clean sheet. Fiorentina came out on top during the five-goal thriller in the previous gameweek and Luca Gotti may freshen things up.

Maurizio Sarri’s former assistant initially took over on a caretaker basis but was handed a 12-month contract in August and has full control this term. Udinese finished in 13th in 2019-20 and a similar outcome would be considered a success.

The Friuli outfit spent the entirety of the off-season battling to hold on to  Rodrigo De Paul with Marcelo Bielsa desperate to sign his countryman, but Leeds failed to match the Zebrette’s €40m valuation of their talisman.

De Paul has consistently been linked to all the big clubs in Italy and his good form has seen him return to the national setup. The Argentine is 13/2 to break the deadlock and will support all-Azzurri strike pairing Stefano Okaka and Kevin Lasagna.

Okaka has netted twice and laid on an assist from his first five appearances and is 9/1 to open proceedings. After only scoring 37 efforts from 38 league fixtures last year, Gotti bolstered the ranks and there is now real competition for places in the Udinese attack.

Lasagna is a regular in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad’s and is 2/1 to bag anytime. The skipper and his compatriot are joined by Gerard Deulofeu, Ilija Nestorovski and returning duo Ignacio Pussetto, Fernando Forestieri. The Zebrette are 7/2 to claim the spoils and a draw is 3/1.

In the away dressing room, Serie A top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic has six efforts to his name from just three domestic games and is 13/5 to register first. The legendary Swede is leading an unexpected charge at the top of the standings and has brought the best out of all of his team-mates.

Theo Hernandez, the outstanding performer in his role in the division, is 10/1 to hit the final goal. Milan are 7/10 to chalk up all three points.

One to watch for Udinese: Deulofeu turned out for the Rossoneri in 2017 and was fondly thought of. The Barcelona youth graduate is a fine player when on song and is 11/1 to notch last.

One to watch for Milan: Rafael Leao has deputised superbly for Rebic and the Croatian will have a battle on his hands to regain his berth on the left flank. The speedster is 8/5 to score anytime.

Long shot: Udinese have more than enough to avoid getting sucked in to a relegation battle and will be fine offensively. Gotti altered his backline for the Coppa Italia encounter with Vicenza and the changes could be permanent if Milan run riot. A 4-1 result for the pacesetters is 28/1.
