Last time: All the drama came late on when these teams met at the Bernabeu in August. Karim Benzema put Madrid ahead in the 82nd minute, but the away team snatched a point thanks to Sergi Guardiola’s equaliser just before the end of normal time.

Valladolid v Real Madrid Predictions and Preview

That 1-1 draw earlier this term was only the second time Real Valladolid have avoided defeat to Real Madrid in the last 10 meetings between the clubs. Los Blancos have left with all three points on three of their last visits to the Estadio Jose Zorrilla, and another victory could be crucial in their title chase.

Rivals Barcelona look to have restored some positivity following the sacking of Ernesto Valverde, although they have a tricky trip to Valencia to negotiate on Saturday afternoon. Madrid could have the opportunity to take the outright lead in the table by the time they kick off in this last fixture of the weekend.

They may have to do so without their captain though. Sergio Ramos is struggling with an ankle knock he picked up in the Spanish Super Cup final victory over Atletico Madrid, although the centre-back stayed on the pitch and tucked away the winning penalty in the shootout. Fellow defender Dani Carvajal is definitely out due to a ban, while forwards Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio are injured.

For the hosts, Stiven Plaza is expected to be the only player unavailable to head coach Sergio, as the Ecuadorean forward continues his quest for full fitness following a hamstring injury. Even a fully-fit squad wouldn’t appear to give Los Blanquivioletas much hope of upsetting the betting odds with a win though.

Valladolid are out at 13/2 for the victory, which would be their first in La Liga since the start of November. They’ve gone eight without a win since, although they’ve only lost three of those matches. Madrid, however, are on a 17-match unbeaten run in all competitions, stretching back to mid-October. They are the 4/9 favourites for the win, with the draw available at 4/1

One to watch for Valladolid: Sergi Guardiola scored a dramatic late equaliser for Los Blanquivioletas at the Bernabeu earlier this term, and is his team’s top scorer with four goals to his name. He is 12/1 to add to his tally with the opening goal on Sunday night.

One to watch for Real Madrid: Karim Benzema has nine more La Liga goals to his name than any of his team mates this season, and 16 for the season in all competitions. He scored a brace at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla last season, and is 3/1 to break the deadlock after doing so in the first meeting between these clubs this term.

Long shot: Madrid won 4-1 in last season’s corresponding fixture, the second time they’ve beaten Valladolid by that scoreline in four trips to the Estadio Jose Zorrilla. Los Blancos have scored exactly four goals in five of their last nine matches against Valladolid, and are 21/1 to win this game 4-1.
