Last time: Liverpool dominated the first leg but could only score two goals for all their attempts on goal. But that could easily be enough to go through.

Villarreal vs. Liverpool Predictions and Preview

Villarreal shouldn’t really be playing at this late stage of the Champions League at all. They have only been playing in the Spanish top flight for just over 20 years and the Anfield capacity is larger than Villarreal’s entire population. But Unai Emery has already masterminded victories over Juventus and Bayern Munich to get his team to this stage, so nothing can be discounted here.

Liverpool absolutely had to win the first leg and were able to score two goals in quick succession in the second half, after struggling to break through in the first period. An early goal at El Madrigal would probably put this tie to bed.

As much as Villarreal have concentrated on beating opponents with their defence in this competition, they do have some very good attacking players – and this is the time that those members of the squad will need to step up.

Villarreal vs. Liverpool full time result odds

Villarreal have to go for goals in this second leg, so it will be interesting to see how they start off the match. Liverpool have the better side technically and will be more than happy to allow the home side to give them the space to exploit. That could mean that Liverpool end up with more chances and the away win is priced at 4/6.

Villarreal vs. Liverpool both teams to score odds

For all Villarreal’s defensive tactics, they have only failed to score in three games in this entire Champions League campaign. The first leg was one of those but they are now required to find the net at home – and they may well achieve that. But Liverpool will also know that just one goal could kill off this tie, so odds of 7/10 for both teams to score on Tuesday looks the best option.

Villarreal vs. Liverpool correct score odds

If this game starts to get away from Villarreal as they chase the goals needed to progress to the final, there will be more and more opportunities for Liverpool to take advantage and score goals of their own. That’s why a high-scoring game is a distinct possibility. Villarreal should be able to find the net on Tuesday but a final scoreline of 3-1 to Liverpool, priced at 12/1, could well be the result.

Villarreal vs. Liverpool first goalscorer odds

Liverpool will not have to score at El Madrigal but could find themselves in the position of dictating the way the game goes by scoring the opening goal. It is unlikely that Jürgen Klopp will change around his team too much, so the attacking players in the side are the ones to look at to open the scoring. Sadio Mané will probably be the best value option in this market.
