West Brom v Chelsea Predictions and Preview

West Brom have suffered a rude awakening on their top flight return. The Baggies were swept aside by Leicester City and Carlo Ancelotti’s impressive Everton side and Slaven Bilic is racing against time to improve his squad. The Croatian has prioritised a striker with current options Hal Robson-Kanu, Callum Robinson and Charlie Austin hardly prolific.

Robson-Kanu is not an orthodox centre-forward, while Robinson netted only once from 17 appearances for Sheffield United and Austin has been plagued by injuries. Foxed owned Islam Slimani is in talks with Albion and enjoyed a stellar loan spell at Monaco but the move was not made permanent.

In the meantime, Goodison Park scorers Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira will be tasked with hurting the opposition and both look comfortable in the Premier League. Diangana, an £18m acquisition from West Ham United, is an attractive 18/1 to break the deadlock and the Baggies are 15/2 to emerge triumphant.

Lampard will hope to have Thiago Silva available for selection. The ex-PSG captain is adapting to the rigours of the English game and will be a welcome addition to the backline alongside fellow new arrival Ben Chilwell.

Hakim Ziyech has also yet to feature but Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have made their debuts in attack. The German internationals will be joined by Ziyech and Christian Pulisic once the American is back to full fitness and while Werner has yet to score, the versatile forward has won two penalties in as many matches.

The former RB Leipzig ace is 3/1 to strike first and should be flanked by his compatriot and Mason Mount, who was widely expected to make way in the starting eleven.

The Blues youth graduate is 7/4 to notch anytime and Lampard is blessed with a wealth of options in the middle of the park. Chelsea are 4/11 to claim the spoils and a draw is 15/4.

One to watch for West Brom: Pereira’s stunning free-kick away at the Toffees gave Albion brief hope and there is big responsibility on the Brazilian. The Belo Horizonte native is 15/1 to bag the final effort.

One to watch for Chelsea: Olivier Giroud is playing second fiddle to Werner but the World Cup winner is still vitally important to Lampard and will get plenty of game time across all four competitions. The veteran is 4/1 in the same betting.

Long shot: The trip to West Brom is the perfect opportunity for Lampard to fine tune his star-studded line-up against a crisis hit rearguard. Havertz, Werner, Mount and Mateo Kovacic will see plenty of the ball and the Blues will hope the encounter acts as a catalyst for the new campaign. A 4-0 success is 29/2.
