West Ham United are aiming to complete the double over Leeds United, as the Hammers welcome the Whites to the London Stadium in the Premier League on Monday. The hosts are looking to get straight back to winning ways following their defeat to Manchester City last weekend, but that won’t be easy against Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Where and when: London Stadium – 8 March, kick-off 20:00

Last time: Mateusz Klich put Leeds ahead with an early penalty when these teams met at Elland Road in December, but West Ham came back to win 2-1 as Angelo Ogbonna struck late for the visitors.

West Ham v Leeds Predictions and Preview

This is a huge game for both West Ham United and Leeds United, with both clubs still harbouring European ambitions. The hosts are in the hunt for the Champions League places as we head towards the business end of the season, while a defeat for the visitors would surely put them out of contention for the Europa League.

Leeds have proven excellent value on their long-awaited return to the top flight, but their 1-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa has left them in the bottom half of the Premier League table. The Whites have now lost exactly half of their 26 fixtures so far, with only relegation candidates Newcastle United, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United suffering more defeats.

Even so, the away team are only the narrow underdogs at 13/5 in this West Ham v Leeds preview. The hosts are 11/10 with William Hill, while you can back the draw on Monday night at 14/5. A point wouldn’t be a great result for the Hammers given their lofty ambitions, but three of the last five meetings between these clubs have ended all square.

However, that run stretches all the way back to 2004, taking in four Championship encounters before this season’s reverse fixture three months ago. West Ham were happy to cede possession to Leeds in that game, seeing just 36% of the ball, but they managed more efforts on goal and shots on target to take all three points.

Leeds need to be more clinical in the final third, while they also need to improve at the back if they’re going to stand any chance of moving up the table. The Whites are often easy to play through, and the likes of Jesse Lingard and Michail Antonio could have a field day on the break in this game.

Both of those two Hammers were on target as West Ham beat Tottenham 2-1 a couple of weeks ago, and David Moyes needs that duo to fire again here. If they do, it’s tough to look past the home win as the Irons make an immediate return to the win column on Monday.

One to watch for West Ham: Jesse Lingard has been a revelation since joining West Ham on loan from Manchester United in January. The 28-year-old is back in contention for the England squad for the Euros after netting three goals in five games so far. Lingard is 17/2 to open the scoring on Monday.

One to watch for Leeds: Patrick Bamford has netted a goal every other game so far this season, with 13 from 26 appearances. He’s due a goal after drawing a blank against Villa, and available at 6/1 to break the deadlock in these West Ham v Leeds predictions.

Long shot: Games involving Leeds are rarely dull. The Whites lost 4-2 away to Arsenal last month, and they are 54/1 to suffer the same fate on another trip to the capital. You can back Michail Antonio to score first in a 4-2 West Ham win at an eye-popping 305/1
