West Ham v Manchester City Predictions and Preview

It was another turbulent summer for West Ham as joint-owners David Gold and David Sullivan endured the wrath of the supporters. The often criticised businessman sold popular midfielder Grady Diangana to West Brom and failed in numerous attempts to bring in a top centre-half.

Despite the negativity surrounding the club, the Irons hammered much fancied Wolves 4-0 and hit Leicester for three before the international break. David Moyes’ troops may have lost to Arsenal but were desperately unlucky and a relegation battle is highly unlikely.

West Ham spent £40m on both Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson but it is a pair of modest recruits from the Championship that have shone for the hosts. Michail Antonio has flourished as a centre-forward and ended the previous campaign with eight strikes from the final seven matches.

Antonio has turned out in a variety of positions and the Irons have stumbled on a solution to their goalscoring woes. The well-travelled Wandsworth native is 15/2 to open proceedings and the City backline will have their hands full.

Jarrod Bowen will support Antonio from the right flank. The winger arrived from Hull City in January and has made the step up with ease. The 23-year-old is 14/1 to register first and West Ham are 13/2 to clinch the spoils. A draw is 19/4.

The visitors welcomed back Sergio Aguero during the 1-0 success over Arsenal. The Sky Blues all-time top scorer is 17/4 to break the deadlock and has netted 10 goals from 17 appearances against the Irons.

Fellow attacker Raheem Sterling joined the century club for the Sky Blues in August and has developed in to a prolific marksman. The England star has two from his first four league games and is 8/11 to bag anytime. City are 3/10 to emerge triumphant as they bid to reclaim the title from Liverpool.

One to watch for West Ham: Tomáš Souček has drawn comparisons to Marouane Fellaini and the Czech ace is a big threat in the air. The fan favourite is 18/5 to score anytime and has a considerable size advantage over Rodri, Fernandinho and Bernardo Silva.

One to watch for Manchester City: Guardiola’s decision to replace David Silva internally is good news for Phil Foden. The youngster is now receiving regular game time and is 5/1 to notch last.

Long shot: There is no guarantee De Bruyne will be available for selection after returning back from Belgium duty with a muscular problem. City are a completely different proposition without their talisman and the home dressing room will fancy their chances of getting something from the contest. A 2-2 outcome is 20/1.
