After Barcelona staged another miraculous comeback on Tuesday night, the Catalan giants play host to Atletico Madrid this weekend. Some of the world’s biggest stars will take to the majestic stage that is the Nou Camp, but will Antoine Griezmann be front and centre?
The French World Cup winner has certainly been the man for the big occasions in recent seasons. He scored three goals in the two biggest matches he played in last year, bagging a brace in the Europa League final before putting France into a lead they never surrendered against Croatia in the finale of Russia 2018.
This is arguably Atletico’s biggest game of the season so far, as a defeat on Saturday night will almost certainly mean Barcelona retain their La Liga crown. Barca have an eight-point lead over Diego Simeone’s side coming into the game, but Atleti could cut the gap to just five points with seven matches remaining.
It’ll be a tall order, and they’ll need their main man to perform if they’re going to get the win. There is of course added spice in that Griezmann turned Barca down in the summer to stay at the Wanda Metropolitano, although rumours have resurfaced that the forward regrets his decision.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has ruled out any move away from Madrid for his star turn, but if the player harbours any desires to join Lionel Messi and co. this summer, he’ll surely need to show he can perform in the big games at the Nou Camp. So, what are the best Antoine Griezmann bets for Barcelona vs. Atletico Madrid?
The obvious place to start is with the first goalscorer market. There are absolutely no prizes for guessing who’s the favourite to break the deadlock in this massive fixture, but Messi’s short odds means there are opportunities elsewhere.
Griezmann is 13/2 to open the scoring on Saturday, which isn’t a bad price at all. Los Rojiblancos have found the back of the net on four of their last five trips to the Nou Camp, although they drew a blank last March. If anyone’s going to get a goal for the visitors, Griezmann’s likely to be your man. With that in mind, he’s 13/5 to score anytime.
The Frenchman has more than three times as many La Liga goals this season than any of his team mates. He had been on a seven-match goal drought for Atletico, but he ended that late on in his team’s victory over Girona on Tuesday. It should also be noted that he scored in both of France’s Euro 2020 qualifiers during the international break.
If you think Griezmann can inspire his team to victory in this top of the table clash, he’s available at 6/1 in a score/win double. Or you can back the dynamic No.7 to have a major say in not only this game, but potentially the destination of the La Liga title, by bagging the only goal of the game. That bet’s priced at 52/1.
