What are the best first goalscorer bets in La Liga this weekend?

It’s the final round of La Liga fixtures this weekend, giving us one more chance to spin up some cash before the Spanish top flight enjoys its summer holidays. This week, we’re taking a look at the best first goalscorer bets in La Liga.

There’s only one man to start with, and his name’s Lionel Messi. There hasn’t been any doubt for quite some time that the Argentine maestro would be picking up another Pichichi Trophy this weekend. He draws level with legendary Athletic Bilbao forward Telmo Zarra after finishing as La Liga’s top scorer for the sixth time, and has 34 goals so far this season.

To put that into context, Luis Suarez and Karim Benzema are tied for second on 21 goals, while over in Serie A a certain Cristiano Ronaldo has the same. The Premier League’s Golden Boot has been shared out among three players who managed 22 strikes across 38 games. Champions Barcelona wrap up the season away to Eibar on Sunday, as they prepare for the Copa del Rey final with Valencia. Messi is 3/1 to open the scoring for Barca this weekend.

Speaking of Valencia, Los Che face a trip to Valladolid in their bid to wrap up a place in the top four. As long as they match Getafe’s result at home to Villarreal, Marcelino’s side will be plying their trade in the Champions League next season. That’s in spite of an underwhelming goal return this term, with Valencia only hitting the back of the net 49 times in 37 matches so far.

Midfielder Dani Parejo remains their top scorer with just nine La Liga goals to his name. He’s without a goal in his last five games, but could prove excellent value at 13/2 to open the scoring on Saturday to take himself into double figures. As Valladolid are safe from relegation after last weekend and top scorer Enes Unal has managed just six league goals this term, we’re staying away from the home team in this week’s first goalscorer bets.

We’re also staying well away from Gareth Bale, after Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has made it clear the Welshman’s services are no longer required at the Bernabeu. It remains to be seen whether the man who broke the world transfer record when moving from the Premier League to Spain in 2013 will be afforded a farewell appearance at home to Real Betis on Sunday. Either way, Karim Benzema is a much safer choice for the first goal at 15/4.

Finally to runners-up Atletico Madrid, who round off their campaign with visit to Levante. Los Rojiblancos have won each of the last three meetings between the sides without conceding a goal, while scoring nine themselves. That includes a 5-0 victory at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia last season, when Antoine Griezmann scored a brace.

Rumours the French forward is on his way to Barcelona this summer are at fever pitch, so this weekend could signal the end of Griezmann’s five-year stay in Madrid. He is 18/5 to potentially sign off by breaking the deadlock against Levante with his 22nd goal of the season. If you’re after some big odds this week, why not throw our four first goalscorer bets into an accumulator? You can get a massive 606/1 on Messi, Benzema, Parejo and Griezmann all scoring first this weekend.
