There are some big games coming up in Serie A this weekend, which means there are some big players looking to stamp their name on proceedings. With that in mind, we take a look at the best first goalscorer bets around this weekend’s Serie A fixtures.
Serie A First Goalscorer Predictions and Preview
The first game of the weekend is Saturday’s early kick-off between Lazio and Cagliari. Although Leonardo Pavoletti has been in good form this term for the visitors, netting six times so far in Serie A, there’s one man dominating the first scorer odds for this game. Ciro Immobile has 10 goals in the league, as well as three more in cup competitions, and he’s 11/4 to break the deadlock this weekend. If you do fancy Pavoletti to score first, the odds are 11/1.
The pick of the afternoon kick-offs is probably Milan against Fiorentina, and there’s another standout contender for the first goal in that game. Gonzalo Higuain has five goals for the Rossoneri since his move from Juventus, and the Argentine could be great value at 5/1 to strike first against the Viola.
Speaking of Juve, the Old Lady play host to Roma at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening. The visitors may be languishing down in seventh place at the moment, but Eusebio Di Francesco’s side will be keen to give a good account of themselves this weekend. That doesn’t stop Cristiano Ronaldo being the heavy favourite to open the scoring though.
The Portuguese maestro is 3/1 see the net bulge for the 12th time this season with the game’s opening goal. Ronaldo is the favourite to finish the season as Serie A’s top goalscorer, and he’s only one behind Genoa’s Krzysztof Piatek at present. The Polish forward has a home game against Atalanta this weekend, who are having a decent season. That probably helps the odds on Piatek though, who’s 5/1 to notch first.
Second-placed Napoli are at home to SPAL on Saturday afternoon, and there are a few candidates for the first goal. Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne have both scored seven times in Serie A so far this season. Four of Insigne’s have been Lazio’s first goal, which is double Mertens’s tally to date. For that reason, we’re highlighting Insigne at 39/10, as well as Arkadiusz Milik at 4/1, who’s actually Napoli’s top scorer so far this season with eight.
Finally, Mauro Icardi could be well worth your attention this weekend. His Inter Milan side travel to bottom club Chievo on Saturday evening, where the Nerazzurri are expected to take all three points after outscoring the Gialloblu by seven goals to one last term. Icardi has nine goals, which is three times as many as Inter’s next highest scorer, and the Argentine is 16/5 to score first.
Long shot: Stefan De Vrij could give his captain Icardi a run for his money at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi this weekend. The Dutch defender was Serie A’s top scoring defender last term with six goals for Napoli, and he has one in seven so far for new club Inter. He is 25/1 to score first against Chievo.
