With four matches of the season left, things are reaching a crescendo in Serie A. Not in terms of where the title is going of course, as Juventus have had the scudetto stitched up for months now. The relegation dogfight looks set to go the distance, but here we’re focusing on the best bets for a top four finish in Serie A.
Second-placed Napoli have a 12-point lead over Roma in fourth, so they’re going to be keeping the Old Lady company in the Champions League next season. Inter Milan looked like they were going to wrap up third, but back-to-back draws have allowed the chasing pack to retrain their senses on Luciano Spalletti’s side.
The Nerazzurri have some tricky fixtures coming up too, so failing to make the most of home advantage against both Roma and Juventus in their last two games doesn’t come at a good time. Inter are away to an Udinese side still fighting for their Serie A lives this weekend, and also have to go away to Napoli before the season’s out.
The good news for Spalletti is that the team in fourth, Atalanta, have got Lazio and Juve away in their run-in. La Dea are just a point above Roma in fifth, and have a much better goal difference, which could come into play after the teams drew both of their meetings this season 3-3. Roma probably have a more favourable run-in than Inter and Atalanta, but they still have to play Juve.
That’s at home though, so Claudio Ranieri’s side could be very interesting at 5/2 to finish in the top four. They’re most likely to overhaul Atalanta, with Gian Piero Gasperini’s impressive team boasting shorter odds of 11/8 ahead of this weekend’s action. At 1/25, there’s no value on Inter finishing in the top four.
AC Milan could be worth your attention though. The Rossoneri have four very winnable fixtures remaining, and three points to make up on fourth-placed Atalanta. Gennaro Gattuso’s side also edge the head-to-head record after a 3-1 victory at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia. At 7/2 in the Serie A top four odds, Milan could be well worth a look at this stage of the season.
Torino have the same number of points as Milan, but Il Toro are away at Juventus this weekend. If you fancy Walter Mazzarri’s side to bounce back from a bad result against their Turin rivals and storm into the top four by winning their last three games, it’s probably best to wait until after Friday’s fixture.
Torino are available at 40/1 to finish in the top four, but that price will lengthen should they fail to beat Juve. Having said that, if you think the Granata will beat the champions, now’s the time to get on them as their top four price will shorten with a big win this weekend.
The last team in with a chance of the top four is Lazio. Simone Inzaghi’s side are four points behind Roma, but they face a tough trip to Torino on the final day of the season. The Biancocelesti are the dark horses to spoil the party for the rest of the gang at the death, and 9/1 to finish in the top four.
