The title race in Serie A is really hotting up as we hurtle towards 2022, with a number of clubs chasing defending champions Inter at the top of the table. There’s also plenty of interest at the foot of the table as a raft of teams try to avoid the drop into Serie B, while the race for European places also promises to be keenly fought.
Last season, Inter claimed their first Scudetto since Jose Mourinho led the Nerazzurri to a remarkable treble in 2010. Despite losing Antonio Conte, Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi in the summer, Il Biscione are in great shape when it comes to defending their crown.
Simone Inzaghi has overcome a slow start to produce a machine of a side that’s riding high at the top halfway through the campaign. Inter are the 4/9 favourites to win back-to-back Scudetti, and it’s going to take a monumental effort from one of the clubs below them to prevent that from happening.
Local rivals Milan looked as though they were going to offer a more sustained title challenge than last term, but Stefano Pioli’s side have stuttered in recent weeks. The Rossoneri’s defeat to Napoli was a body blow for their chances, a result that saw the previous league leaders fall four points behind Inter.
There’s a real danger Milan could slip well out of the reckoning once again, but their price of 10/1 still makes them very attractive as a punt on who’s going to lift the title. Even though they lost to Napoli, Milan probably appear better value than the Azzurri who are 6/1 to win the league.
Aside from that, Atalanta are also 10/1, while it’s incredible that Juventus have odds as long as 26/1 at the midway point of the campaign. If you fancy a real long shot, Mourinho is out at 200/1 to guide Roma to what would be an astonishing Scudetto, while Lazio are available at 500/1.
The two Roman clubs will likely be pleased to be involved in a battle for the Champions League places as the season reaches its climax. The Giallorossi are 5/1 to finish in the top four, while Maurizio Sarri’s Biancocelesti are 13/1 for the same bet.
Juventus could yet prove very good value at 5/6, considering they’d usually be nailed on for the top four, in the same manner than Inter are currently listed at 1/33. The Bianconeri are 4/1 to finish outside the topi four, while Milan and Atalanta are both 4/9 to end up in at and Napoli are priced at 1/4.
Down at the bottom of the table, the best Serie A bets for 2022 see Salternitana as the favourites for relegation at 8/11. They’ve got lots of problems on and off the pitch at present, with Venezia 4/5 to go down too. Spezia are 11/8, with Genoa more fancied to pull themselves out of trouble and only 15/8 for relegation. A treble of Salternitana, Venezia and Spezia all going down is currently 13/2.
