PSG kicked-off their Ligue 1 title defence with a 3-0 victory against Nimes on August 11. The French heavyweights netted through usual suspects Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria, but there was one notable South American absentee from the matchday squad.
With less than three weeks until the transfer window closes, the future of Neymar still remains unclear. The Brazilian has made his feelings known and the relationship between player and club has rapidly deteriorated after the striker went AWOL earlier in the summer when he was expected to report back for pre-season duty.
So far, the Parisians have held firm in their valuation of Neymar, and understandably want to recoup as close to the €222m sum they invested 24 months ago. Former side Barcelona have made no secret of their desire to resign Sao Paulo native, though there are doubts on if the La Liga champions can finance the deal, given they took out a loan to acquire Antoine Griezmann.
Nevertheless, the Catalan outfit remain 11/10 favourites to land the wantaway attacker and form an astonishing four-man forward line with Griezmann, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. Barcelona are expected to put in a cash + players offer with Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutinho up for grabs.
Fierce rivals Real Madrid are also in the mix. Los Blancos have struggled since Zinedine Zidane’s return and the Frenchman is keen on further arrivals.
Zidane is unlikely to prize top target Paul Pogba out of Manchester United between now and September as the Red Devils will not be able to replace the World Cup winner and Neymar could be the perfect tonic to ease the unrest at Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid are 2/1 to snap up the Brazilian and leave Barcelona red faced.
Elsewhere, Juventus are backed at 16/1 but this is fanciful as the Serie A title holders are attempting to trim their wage bill. Paulo Dybala remains at the club but could ultimately be a Neymar replacement.
