Two teams who’ve hardly had the starts to the new season they would’ve wanted come together this weekend, as Wolverhampton Wanderers host Fulham at Molineux on Sunday afternoon. Both sides lost heavily in their last Premier League fixtures, and need a positive result here.

Wolves v Fulham Predictions and Preview

This is a huge match for these two clubs, with both Wolves and Fulham in desperate need of a shot in the arm. The Wanderers took a pasting last time out, while the Cottagers are already being written off as certainties for relegation by some after losing their opening three matches.

Wolves began the new season with an encouraging 2-0 win away at Sheffield United, but have since followed that up with a 3-1 defeat at home to Manchester City, before Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of West Ham United. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side also crashed out of the League Cup, courtesy of a 1-0 loss at home to Championship outfit Stoke City.

That at least gives the Wanderers a little extra preparation time for this game, with Fulham’s London derby at Brentford on Thursday far from ideal before this tough trip to the Midlands. The newly-promoted Cottagers have conceded 10 goals in losing all of their first three games of the Premier League season, and Whites boss Scott Parker needs time to work on his leaky defence.

Whether those issues can be corrected with the personnel currently at the club remains to be seen, with co-owner Tony Khan promising new signings before Monday’s transfer deadline. Fulham can’t afford to be cut adrift at the bottom of the table or they’re in for a long, hard season and an immediate return to the second tier.

Wolves, on the other hand, have a real battle on their hands if they’re going to make the European places, after narrowly missing out on another tilt at the Europa League last term. Daniel Podence looks as though he’s going to be crucial to the Wanderers’ chances this season, but he’s an injury doubt for this game, while Jonny Castro and Fernando Marcal are both out.

Kenny Tete is the only absentee for the visitors, but Fulham still go into this match as the clear underdogs, priced at 13/2 for the win with William Hill. History doesn’t favour the Cottagers, with Wolves winning seven of the last 10 league meetings between the clubs, losing only once.

Those 10 matches have produced 31 goals at an average of just over three per game, as well as two draws. Another stalemate here is 10/3, but the home team are the odds-on favourites at 14/25 in your Wolves vs Fulham predictions. The Wanderers are 13/10 to win to nil.

One to watch for Wolves: Raul Jimenez has scored two goals in three games at the start of the season, having netted 17 last term. The Mexican striker is 14/5 to break the deadlock in this game.

One to watch for Fulham: The Cottagers’ hopes for this season lie squarely on the shoulders of Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Serbian striker scored a brace in Fulham’s defeat at Leeds United, and is 15/2 to open the scoring here.

Long shot: Fulham look dreadful at the back and have already lost 3-0 twice in their opening three Premier League fixtures. Wolves are 19/2 to win this game 3-0, rising to 40/1 if you add Jimenez as the first goalscorer.
