Wolves v Manchester City Predictions and Preview

Nuno’s troops comfortably dispatched Sheffield United in their first fixtures. Jimenez and Romain Saiss sealed the spoils and Wolves will be a real threat to the top-four places without any European distractions this term.

The starting eleven picks itself for the hosts who rarely suffer on the injury front. Jimenez not only netted on 27 occasions but also contributed nine assists last term and there is an argument the Mexican is the best number 9 in England.

The forward flattered to deceive at Atletico Madrid, fared steadily at Benfica but it was not until he arrived at Wolves, he truly flourished. The 29-year-old is a big game player and has scored against all the elite teams in the division, and was linked to both Manchester United and Juventus earlier in the summer.

Lightweight City stopper Eric Garcia will be tasked with handling the hitman and Jimenez, available at 7/1 to break the deadlock, will relish his chances of influencing proceedings. Wolves are 11/2 to claim victory and 10/3 to earn a draw.

The visiting Citizens have been surprisingly quiet in the market. Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres have arrived from Valencia and Bournemouth and Kalidou Koulibaly could follow. Guardiola will field Blues all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero, Sterling and one of either Bernardo Silva or Riyad Mahrez upfront.

Aguero is closing in on a decade in the North West and still has much to offer. The South American is 10/3 to register first, while Sterling is 9/2 in the same betting. The former Liverpool winger hit 30 for the first time in his career last campaign and is instrumental for both club and country. City are the bookmakers favourites for the championship and big things are expected of Guardiola’s hotshots. The travelling party are 1/2 to secure a hard-fought triumph.

One to watch for Wolves: Traore has an almost telepathic understanding with Jimenez and terrifies defenders with his searing pace. The speedster, previously eyed by City, is 9/2 to notch anytime.

One to watch for Manchester City: Gabriel Jesus stepped in for Aguero while the veteran recovered from injury and proved he is up to the job. It went under the radar but the Sao Paulo native bagged 23 strikes in 2019-20 and is 4/1 to bag last.

Long shot: Manchester City may have scooped the Carabao Cup in February but failed spectacularly in the Premier League and Europe. The Blues have yet to address their defensive issues but there are no concerns going forward and an entertaining 2-2 outcome is 16/1, which would be a satisfying conclusion for both outfits as they build up to full fitness.
