Zenit v Juventus Predictions and Preview
Juventus have never lost to Zenit St Petersburg, and the Old Lady will be in a great position if that record is still intact come the end of this match. That said, the clubs have only ever actually played each other on two occasions previously, with Alessandro Del Piero the hero for Juve in a 1-0 triumph earlier in that 2008 group stage.
Max Allegri’s side also beat Chelsea 1-0 on their last European outing before the international break, and another win for the Bianconeri by the same margin here would do very nicely indeed. That’s priced at 7/1 in this Zenit v Juventus preview, while the away team are the 23/20 favourites in the outright market.
Juve are perfect at present in Group H after beating Malmo 3-0 in their opening fixture, at the same time as Zenit were narrowly doing down 1-0 to European champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Russians thrashed Malmo 4-0 in their second game, and they are likely to pose plenty of problems for their visitors here.
Even so, the hosts are the 3/1 underdogs in the betting. Zenit have made a strong start to their domestic campaign and sit top of the Russian Premier League after 11 matches. A draw wouldn’t be a disastrous result for either of these teams, and that’s priced at 12/5 in the betting. Given their standing, that particular outcome would probably suit Juventus more.
One to watch for Zenit: Russia international Artem Dzyuba is a real handful. The big striker can be unplayable on his day, and with the Old Lady looking shaky at the back at times this season, he is 11/2 to score first in these Zenit v Juventus predictions.
One to watch for Juventus: Federico Chiesa can also be unplayable when he’s in the mood. His movement and finishing always mark him out as one to keep an eye, with the Italy international also priced at 11/2 to break the deadlock in this game.
Long shot: Chiesa was the match-winner in Juve’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea. With another 1-0 success for the Bianconeri 7/1 in these Zenit v Juventus tips, those odds rise to 48/1 if you add Chiesa as the scorer.
